PROGRAM LEVEL

The doctor of philosophy program (PhD) in Electrical Engineering degree provides an opportunity for students to pursue a program of research in a specialized area and to develop a dissertation that embodies the results of original research and gives evidence of high scholarship. The PhD thesis shall make an original and significant contribution to engineering knowledge.

The PhD in Electrical Engineering student may choose one of the following disciplines to carry out their research for the dissertation: Power Engineering, AI Systems, Digital Systems Engineering, Energy and Machines Engineering, and Control Systems Engineering. The PhD program consists of (75 credits) after the MSc degree. There are 7 courses that are required to be completed before starting the dissertation. Each course is (3 credits) and the thesis is (54 credits). The courses are common among all the Departments of College of Engineering. The dissertation must represent a significant contribution to the field of study. The PhD student is required to defend their thesis before a jury which consists of the supervisor, an internal examiner and an external examiner (from another university).

PROGRAM EDUCATIONAL OBJECTIVES- PEOs

PEOs are to enable the students,

  1. Become accomplished and independent professionals capable of linking architectural knowledge to rigorous and advanced approaches to scholarship.
  2. Make original contributions to the current state of discussion of theory and methods in architecture through research, research-based practice and teaching.
  3. Become ethical and responsible individuals capable of assuming positions of leadership in the profession and the community.

PROGRAM INTENDED LEARNING OUTCOMES- PILOs

A student who completes a PhD shall:

  1. Demonstrate detailed critical knowledge and understanding about the specific area of research conducted at the forefront of a particular field.
  2. Use highly specialized and expert skills to critique current knowledge to demonstrate creativity and originality in the development and application of new knowledge.
  3. Improvise and use a combination of approaches of research methodologies and techniques relevant to the field of inquiry to make informed judgments in situations where data/information is very limited and/or inconsistent.
  4. Critically analyze, evaluate and/or synthesize very complex ideas and information to conceptualize original and creative theoretical arguments based on facts and information.
  5. Use a significant range of professional level of skills to communicate research outcomes to peers and others.
  6. Operate at an expert level to design and implement independently, an original and pioneering research activity.
