Dr. Manal Khalaf has a background in architecture, urban planning and heritage conservation. She is an architect with experience in urban planning. Manal holds a Master’s degree in Sustainable Heritage, and a PhD in Urban Conservation Planning both from University College London. Her research focuses on the evolution of theory and practice of Urban Conservation Planning in the Arabian Gulf region. She is particularly interested in understanding the social and cultural values of urban heritage, the way they are manifested and expressed by different community groups and the approaches in which they could be used to inform and guide decision-making in the conservation field. She teaches Architectural Design and Vernacular Architecture. She teaches Architectural Design, Vernacular Architecture and Landscape Architecture.
