Dr. Shaker Haji is an Associate Professor in the Department of Chemical Engineering at the University of Bahrain (UOB). He holds a B.Sc. degree from King Abdul Aziz University (1999) and M.Sc. and Ph.D. degrees from the University of Connecticut (2005). He teaches several chemical engineering courses at UOB, including chemical reaction engineering, thermodynamics, energy systems, introductory chemical engineering courses, process instrumentation, and fuel cell technology. He holds a Postgraduate Certificate in Academic Practice from York St John University/University of Bahrain (2007). Dr. Haji was on a one-year industrial assignment with the Research and Development Center (R&DC) of Saudi Aramco in Dhahran (2009). He served as the Chairman of the Department of Chemical Engineering at UOB from 2011-2015. He has authored/co-authored many peer-reviewed articles and contributed a chapter to a book on fuel and fuel processing for fuel cell applications. His recent publications and research interests focus on water and energy applications, including wastewater treatment, fossil fuel processing, renewable energy, and fuel cell technology. Dr. Haji lectured in several short courses on the topics of renewable energy, laboratory measurements, and fundamentals of chemical engineering. Dr. Haji served as a consultant, coordinator, and member of many committees on the department, college, university, and national levels. On the national level, for instance, Dr. Haji was a member of the national committee for preparing the Second and Third “National Communication on Climate Change in the Kingdom of Bahrain”, 2008 – 2012 and 2017 –2021. In addition, he was the coordinator of the national committee for “The Development of National Implementation Plan (NIP) for the Stockholm Convention on Persistent Organic Pollutants (POPs) in the Kingdom of Bahrain”, UNEP/Supreme Council for Environment, May 2020 – Dec 2021.Areas of Expertise
