Dr. Wafa AL-Ghatam is a distinguished scholar specializing in the principles of built environment design and its societal, cultural, and economic impacts. Her research focuses on developing methodologies to analyze built spaces at various scales, particularly exploring the socio-economic implications of urban fabrics in Bahrain’s villages assimilated into cities like Manama and Muharraq, using advanced Space Syntax methodologies. Her expertise in space syntax analysis is widely recognized, honed through roles at Space Syntax Limited in London and as a representative in Bahrain, overseeing projects including the strategic planning of Jeddah city in Saudi Arabia. She also contributed significantly as a research associate at the Technical University of Munich, engaging in projects on architecture and urbanism. Dr. AL-Ghatam has taught at prestigious institutions such as Wentworth Institute of Technology and Boston University in Boston, USA, and the Architectural Association School of Architecture (AA) in London, UK. She completed her doctoral studies at the Bartlett School of Graduate Studies, UCL, London, UK. Her academic journey spans East and West, integrating architectural expertise with urban development initiatives, emphasizing sustainable design practices and interdisciplinary collaboration in the global landscape of architecture and urban planning.
