Biography


Dr. Wafa Al-Madani is the Director of Engineering Programs at the College of Applied Studies and an Assistant Professor in the Department of Architecture and Interior Design at the College of Engineering. Al-Madani received both her Ph.D. and Master degrees from the University of Sheffield, UK, and received her B.Sc. in Architectural Engineering from the University of Bahrain. Al-Madani practiced architecture in an architectural engineering firm before joining academia. Her extensive teaching experience ranges from design and theoretical courses in Architecture, Interior Design, and Landscape Architecture. She contributed to developing a number of curricula and programs including the Landscape Architecture program in which she was assigned as the coordinator of the program. Al-Madani is a member of several local and international professional and academic committees. As part of her research initiatives, Al-Madani has published several scientific research in international journals, participated in several local and international conferences, and participated as a reviewer for some journal publications. Her research interest focuses on connecting theory and practice within the frameworks of urban landscape planning and design. Her research revolves around: transcultural urbanism, socio-spatial quality, and conviviality with notions of cultural competencies, natural and urban heritage sites, and ecological planning. With regard to her academic endeavors, she is keen on highlighting the significance of greenspaces and public open spaces in cities in supporting different outdoor leisure cultural practices to promote wellbeing and a sense of belonging in the Arab region.
