Biography


Prof. Mohab A. Mangoud is a Professor of Electrical and Computer Engineering at the University of Bahrain (UoB), specializing in Telecommunications, Artificial Intelligence (AI), Deep Learning Applications, Internet of Things (IoT), Routing Protocols, Applied Electromagnetics, Antenna Design, and Advanced Numerical and Optimization Techniques. With over 32 years of academic and research experience, he has contributed significantly to higher education, industry, and professional communities. He earned his B.Sc. (1993) and M.Sc. (1995) degrees from Alexandria University and a Ph.D. (2001) in Telecommunications Engineering from the University of Bradford, UK. His career includes roles in both academia and industry, including Senior RF Engineer at Airbus-Astrium Space Ltd (UK), and academic positions at AASTMT (Egypt) and Virginia Tech (USA). At UoB, Prof. Mangoud chairs the College of Engineering’s Scientific Research and Publications Committee. He is the postgraduate programs director for Electrical Engineering Department overseeing 4 programs: AI Systems, Power Systems, Renewable Energy, and Telecom and networks programs. He also serves as Program Chair for the Communications major (undergrad and postgrad), Director of the Telecommunications and IoT Research Lab, and core faculty in the M.Sc. in AI Systems program since its 2020 launch. Also, served as a Telecommunications Consultant for Bahrain Polytechnic (2012–2014). Prof. Mangoud has supervised over 20 graduate theses, published more than 100 peer-reviewed papers, and led numerous international research projects in Wireless Communications, AI, and Molecular Communications. A Senior IEEE Member, he currently chairs the IEEE Region 8 Membership Development Committee and serves on the IEEE MGA Member Recruitment and Recovery Committee (MRRC). He also chairs the IEEE ComSoc Global Sister Chapters Program. His previous leadership roles include Vice Chair of the IEEE Bahrain Section and Founder and Chair of the IEEE Bahrain Communications Society Chapter. Since 2022, he has chaired the Bahrain IoT & AI Challenge and has led key IEEE events such as MENACOMM. Since 2019, he has served as an evaluator for the National Center for Academic Accreditation and Assessment (NCAAA) and regularly chairs or serves as an external reviewer for academic promotion committees across the GCC and MENA regions.

Prof. Mohab A.
